Are you aware of the number of chemicals used in standard Laundry/Washing Powders?
Check out this list of ingredients found in a common Australian Laundry Powder Brand –
Sodium sulfate, sodium carbonate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, sodium silicate, sodium carbonate peroxide, zeolite, sodium acrylic acid/ma copolymer, c12-15 pareth-7, tetraacetyl ethylene diamine, perfume (fragrance), disodium anilinomorpholinotriazinylaminostilbenesulfonate, , disodium distyrylbiphenyl disulfonate, cellulose gum, calcium sodium edtmp, phenylpropyl ethyl methicone, protease, amylase, mannanase, lipase, water, ci 74160.
A simple solution to avoiding some of these toxic ingredients is to make your own Laundry Powder!
1kg sodium carbonate (washing soda)
1kg sodium bicarbonate (bicarb)
500g soap powder
500g fine salt
1-2 tbsp of essential oils – optional
Combine in a large pot and mix together well. Store in an airtight container. To use, add a tablespoon to your washing load.
After using this simple recipe, there’s no way I’ll go back to using a shop bought Laundry Powder. It is so easy to make and only uses four ingredients – Soap Powder, Bi-Carb, Washing Soda, Salt plus some our very own Aussie Eucalyptus Ōil. The main ingredients are all available from your local supermarket. You’ll find them in the Laundry Section on lower shelves located close to the floor. I only ever use dōTERRA Essential Oils as not only are they are pure, they are also ethically and sustainably sourced. Click here to find out why you too should use dōTERRA Essential Oils.
This recipe made almost 4kg of Washing Powder at a cost of .12c a load, plus the cost of the essential oil of your choice! You might like to try Lemon, Lime, Lemongrass or Wild Orange Essential Oil for something different.
Have you made your own toxic free Laundry Powder yet? Did it work for you? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below. Here’s a photo of mine!
Be well and feel good.
